Hi! My name is Andrea Chapman. For over 20 years, I've had the privilege of teaching elementary school students across public, private, and charter virtual school settings. Over those two decades in the classroom, I saw something that changed the direction of my career: bright, capable students who struggled with reading — many with dyslexia or other reading difficulties — and I felt I didn't yet have the tools to help them the way I knew they deserved. I also watched too many of these students placed into Special Education when I believed, in my heart, that wasn't where they needed to be.

That experience sent me on a journey to learn everything I could about how children with dyslexia and other reading challenges truly learn to read.

Today, I hold a Master's degree in Language Arts and Literacy K-8, along with a Reading Certificate from Cal State Riverside.  I am a Certified Orton-Gillingham teacher through IMSE, hold a Structured Literacy certification from the Center for Effective Reading Instruction, and am LETRS trained. Every piece of my training is grounded in the Science of Reading, and I'm well-versed in programs including Bookworms, the Barton Spelling System, and UFLI. Because I've spent so many years working within public schools, I'm also deeply familiar with IEPs, EIPs, and 504 plans, and I'm equipped to support students along with their parents in navigating any of these.

I am so grateful I followed this path. I have seen firsthand what happens when a student finally gets the right instruction: I've watched students reach grade-level reading, build real, measurable growth, and — most importantly — start to believe in themselves as readers.

I truly believe every child's reading potential is already inside them. Sometimes they just need the right guide to help them find it and let it shine. I know that every student can learn to read and write with confidence — because it's already in there. My job is simply to help them discover it.

When I'm not teaching, you'll find me playing with my beautiful grandchildren, baking (and lately, learning the art of sourdough!), or taking walks on the beach. On Sundays, I love serving coffee at church — there's something special about connecting with people over a simple cup of coffee.
