“Mrs. Chapman is an amazing individual who puts her heart into everything she teaches. My daughter always struggled with reading, but never quite 'enough' to qualify for help through the school. Of course, anytime I tried to work with her it was a battle. When I asked Mrs. Chapman for some help, she was excited and willing to work with my daughter. My daughter LOVED her time with Mrs. Chapman and began to greatly improve in her reading fluency and confidence. My daughter is now 13, in 8th grade, and in honors ELA. I whole heartedly believe that is due to the help and care Mrs. Chapman provided her. "

Personal Reflection From Andrea Chapman
(Shared with permission from her mother, Angie G.)
One of the greatest joys of teaching reading is witnessing the exact moment a child realizes: I can do this.
I taught all of my students a simple strategy — how to break unfamiliar words into syllables — so that whenever they hit a word they didn't know, they'd have a tool to work through it themselves.
During a first read, one of my first-grade students, Evie, came running up to me, practically bursting with excitement.
"Mrs. Chapman, Mrs. Chapman, I did it!! I did what you taught us, and I read the word all by myself!"
"I am SO happy for you," I told her, "and look — you did that all by yourself. I am so proud of you!"
She just nodded, beaming, with the widest, most beautiful smile I have ever seen.
I asked her, "How does that feel?"
Without missing a beat, she grinned and said:
"It feels so good!"
I will never forget that smile, or the pure joy on her face in that moment. This — right here — is why I do this work. Every child deserves to feel exactly what Evie felt: proud, capable, and unstoppable.
